Coach Dan has been in or around the pool since he was little. He began his involvement in the NVSL with the “Little Rat” program at Rutherford Pool. He swam competitively through the age of 18 including NVSL, club, and with the Woodson high school team where served as a captain. In fact, his first competitive experience occurred during an NVSL A meet at Parliament. He has worked with swimmers of all ages and ability levels in private and group settings. He is a USA Swimming certified coach. Outside of the summer NVSL summer season, Dan is a coach with York Swim club where he has coached both Seniors and Age Groupers. When he is not around the pool, Coach Dan works as a Civics teacher at Lake Braddock where he also serves as the Assistant Varsity Swim Coach. He looks forward to working with the families and swimmers at Parliament this summer and helping create more wonderful summertime memories.
I have been been on the Parliament Swim Team for 12 years. I have also swam with Makos for 7 years, and the Lake Braddock High School Swim Team for 4 years. I have coached with the Parliament winter swim program for the last 2 years. I have lots of fun memories at Parliament like swimming in the mixed age relay and when we won our division along with all the fun activities the team does. I am graduating high school this year and will be going to Virginia Tech for engineering in the fall. My favorite stroke is freestyle and I’m looking forward to having lots of fun this summer!
I have been swimming at parliament since I moved here the summer after fourth grade. I also swam for Makos for two years, for Machine for two years, and for the Lake Braddock swim team for 1 year. Backstroke is my favorite stroke to swim. I've always been excited to become a coach at Parliament and have been doing any volunteering I was allowed to do since I can remember. I have coached Parliament winter swim lessons for the past two years. In the future, I'd like to be an elementary school teacher because I love working with younger kids. I had the chance to work with a kindergarten class for a few months this past school year at Kings Park Elementary School. I'm looking forward to working with and helping kids grow this summer. I hope that I can start kids' passions for swimming young this year. My goals are to make sure everyone is having fun while also learning the basics of swimming. I've lived in six different states before we finally settled down here in Virginia.
My name is Maura Caines, and I am a rising sophomore in high school. I’ve been swimming with the Panthers since I was eight years old, and I started swimming in the NVSL at 7. I currently swim year round with the Fairfax Foxes. I started helping out with the Mini Panthers in 2018, and have been a Panthers coach since 2019. I love coaching for Parliament, teaching the younger kids how to swim and be confident in the water, and being a part of the children’s swimming experience. My favorite event in the summer is the 100 IM. I’m the oldest of six kids, some of whom are on the swim and dive teams, and I enjoy making music and art. I’m excited and ready for a great summer season with Parliament!
Hello! My name is Laura Lafreniere and I’m a volunteer coach for the panthers! I have been on the swim team for 9 years I am so excited to coach! I plan to make this year extra fun for everyone especially since we didn’t get a season last year :)) This is my 3rd year coaching and I am so thrilled!
